The Baxter Public Library was housed in several locations and staffed by volunteers until 1983 when the city was planning to tear down the older home the library had been housed in to build a new fire station/community center. There was not enough room to include the library in this building. At that time the mayor and school board decided to move the library into the school and combine it with the school's collection. Our library is completely combined. The books are stamped to show ownership, but the books are mixed on the shelves and are all on the same check-out system.
